So in today's video, we will be discussing what is anxiety and how does it impact our overall health?

What is anxiety and what impact does it have on our overall health?


Anxiety is a common mental health condition that can manifest in many different forms, such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, panic disorders, and phobias.


It's often a feeling of fear or worry in response to certain situations. Symptoms can range from persistent worrying to restlessness and physical manifestations, such as a rapid heartbeat, sweating, or muscle tension.


When the fear and the worrying become excessive or debilitating, that's when these anxiety disorders develop and when an individual is not able to control these responses, this can interfere with their daily activities and their relationships and overall wellbeing, making it crucial to really find ways to manage and alleviate symptoms.


If anxiety is left untreated, it can lead to a host of other issues including depression and insomnia and substance abuse.


So what are some natural ways to reduce anxiety?

  1. Exercise


The first one is exercising regularly.


Exercising can help to reduce stress and anxiety levels by releasing endorphins and promoting relaxation.


2. Mindfulness


The second thing is mindfulness.


Practices like meditation and deep breathing exercises can reduce anxiety symptoms by cultivating present moment awareness, establishing healthy sleep patterns and addressing sleep disturbances can all impact anxiety as well as we know poor sleep can make anxiety symptoms worse.


It's important to identify and address sources of stress as well to help prevent anxiety symptoms from escalating.


3. Balanced Diet


And then lastly, adopting a balanced diet.


So eating a diet that's full of whole foods that are nutrient dense and includes a variety of vitamins and minerals and omega 3 fatty acids to help support our overall mental health as well as reduce symptoms.

What specific supplements can help with anxiety?

The first one I want to talk about is magnesium.


  1. Magnesium


Magnesium is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in various functions in the body, including regulating our stress and anxiety levels.


Magnesium is involved in the regulation of our neurotransmitters, like serotonin and GABA, which are known to influence our mood and anxiety.


It's also known for lowering our stress hormones like cortisol, which can contribute to anxiety symptoms.


Now, magnesium also aids in muscle relaxation, which can help to alleviate the physical symptoms that we see with anxiety like tension and restlessness.


Magnesium is found in foods like dark leafy greens or green vegetables, nuts and seeds and whole grains, but it may also need to be taken in supplement form to get the benefit of higher doses.


In particular, magnesium glycinate, which is a highly absorbable form of magnesium, has a lot of research supporting its use for helping to reduce anxiety.


2. B Complex


The second supplement I want to talk about is a B complex.


So our B vitamins help us convert our food into energy as well as help us synthesize our neurotransmitters. Specifically, it's going to impact our brain and our nervous system.


So the vitamins are going to be thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, B6, folate, and B12.


These are all water soluble, meaning that our bodies do not store them, so we do need to replenish them daily.


B6 specifically is a necessary co-factor for GABA, serotonin, and dopamine, which all impact our mood.


And research has shown that by adding in a B complex, increasing those B vitamins has shown a reduction in anxiety symptoms.


3. L-Theanine


The last supplement I want to talk about is l-theanine.


Now, l-theanine is an amino acid that's naturally found in green tea leaves and certain mushroom varieties. It's beneficial for promoting a sense of calm and focus.


It helps to increase our GABA and serotonin levels, which are our neurotransmitters that promote calmness and regulate our mood.


And studies suggest that it may even help to lower our cortisol levels while enhancing our focus and attention, which is going to be beneficial for those individuals that are struggling with anxiety related cognitive difficulties.


In Conclusion


To wrap up our topic for today, anxiety can significantly impact the quality of life for those that are struggling with it.


But there are natural remedies that can help you manage and alleviate symptoms.


Supplements like magnesium, B vitamins and L-theanine have been shown to be beneficial for helping to decrease anxiety levels.
